happiness in complexity

The desire to take pictures is stronger these days, I'm not sure why. What are your aesthetics? What is your sense of beauty? You crop pictures in the center or you always, without fail, slant your camera a little to the left? Is it the face, or the light? We always argue about what makes good photography. But you ought to know that you can't take good photographs without a sense of poetry. Contrary to popular belief politics is not the bedrock of society, nor is economics. It's poetry, a sense for beauty, symmetry, inspired disorder, appropriate light, impeccable timing, an accidental rise of the brow captured on film forever.

I imagine leaving this country for a disproportionately long period of time. Away from here I might be able to be myself, or be a better version of myself, or maybe we are creatures of excuses. I imagine wandering around, recording, understanding, being moved, seeing, finally really seeing, and not merely passing by. We don't understand how to live, that's the problem with most of us. I have uncles who are almost 60 and they still don't know how to live. Is it a wonder that we are in our 20s and we are stupid? It should be expected. What sort of wisdom can we expect from people like us? But bravery yes, which is so often lost over the years. And maybe a sort of rugged determination. No matter what we should not give up. Everything will be illuminated over time, because time is a curve that goes up and down and then up again, and sometimes if you were going down it is hard to see that the road ahead is going to wind up.

What is important to you? What is going to make you happy? Will you ever be truly happy? Or are you already in possession of happiness but is too stupid to recognise it?
